Senior Infants

Mrs McCarthy

Hard to believe we are approaching the end of June and the end of Senior Infants! June has been a busy month with lots of events and activities.

We have been learning about the beach and under the Sea, getting ready for our summer break. The girls loved Aistear this month – making mermaids was a huge hit.
Great fun was had at Sports day and we loved working with our sixth class buddies. And the ice lollies were a well deserved treat after a busy day.
The girls were very impressed with their buddies performances in Wonka.
On Friday the 21st we set off for our school tour to world of Bounce. It was a super day out and the girls loved every minute.
Finally, we are all super proud of our friend and classmate Aoife Linnane who donated her hair and raised money for Lauralynn foundation. Well done Aoife !

May… We are getting into the summer spirit here in room 5 and learning all about the great outdoors and the garden. The girls loved learning about minibeasts and how plants grow. We took our learning outdoors and went on bug hunts, garden scavenger hunts and  even platned some broad beans. During Aistear the girls chose to have a garden centre and had great fun with the tuff tray making a garden.

April… We spent the month of April learning about all things animals! The girls loved being vets in our class zoo. They designed and created lovely enclosures for our new arrivals and even engaged in some coding lessons. The girls wrote lovely reports on their favourite zoo animals and had a great oral debate about whether zoos are a good or bad thing!

December… We have been eagerly waiting here all month for the big day!! We have been learning about the first Christmas,  the work of the post office getting all our parcels around the world and of course the big mam himself !

November… In November we learned about all things Space , the girls loved zooming off to Space during Aistear and they made beautiful art work .

October… We have been busy this month learning all about Autumn and Harvest on the farm. We created beautiful  autumn trees and clay hedgehogs. We designed and built new vehicles for Farmer Duck.

We loved working with our buddies for world Mental Health Day !

We also engaged in Maths week activities  and nature trails, the girls even had a visit to the local library this month

The girls are now experts on all things Autumn !!!!
September… We have had a busy first month here in Room 5. We are enjoying being in our new classroom and learning lots of new things. We spent much of September exploring the topic of myself and learning through play.

The 18thof September marked the start of Friendship Week, a week where we explored friendship, we discussed how to be a good friend and how to include others in our games. The children were introduced to their 6th Class buddy who they will work closely with throughout the year. The girls had a great Friendship Week packed with storytelling, arts and crafts and P.E.
